Egypt 2022: Tebes, Valley of the Kings (I)

Waking up at 4AM to leave for the Valley of the Kings is painful, but more painful still when the night before the wedding party in our hotel lasted till well past midnight. Anyway, we didn't come to this trip to sleep, didn't we? We pack our luggage (we'll move to the cruise ship this evening) and head off.

On the way to the Valley of the Kings, we drive by the Colosi of Memnon, at the entrance of the huge Temple of Millions of Years of Amenhotep III, that we'll visit tomorrow.

On arrival to the Valley, we are welcome by the Teban Mountain, a natural stone pyramid that oversees both Valleys. The tomb of Tutakhamun is there, but it is an optional visit. I skip that one.

We start with the tomb of the sons of Rameses II (KV5). Then KV14 (Tausert and Setnakht) that contains several of the books relates to the underworld (Book of the Dead, of the Gates, of the Earth, the Imy-Dwat and an astronomical calendar).

After that, one of the plats de resistance for this morning, the Tomb of Seti I (KV17). Also, at 1000 Egyptian Pounds, one of the most expensive!
